tips
If anyone has handy hints for people just arrived in NZ or planning to make the move here just stick them on this forum. I'll start it off with this one. If you can afford it make a visit to NZ before you decide to take the plunge and live here. We've met so many people who return to their home country after just a few months of being here because NZ wasn't what they expected. |

A good tip Paul. The reality is often different from the dream. Sometimes better, but invariably different. Come for a holiday first but remember, a holiday isn't the same as actually living in a country. You won't know for sure whether you like it until you've lived here for some time. Naturally at some stage, you'll feel homesick, and with travel being so easy these days, won't give the country a fair go. I'm showing my age here, but when I came out to NZ it was a 4 1/2 week sea voyage! Back then, the rule of thumb was to stay for THREE YEARS, and if you still felt homesick you were allowed to go home.

that's very true Rob and I think you have to give yourself at least one year , maybe two before you can really gauge if NZ is the place for you. Another quick tip : eat loads of NZ chocolate and pretty soon you won't like the taste of Cadbury's UK. Mind you my daughter would disagree with me on that one. |
