Plastic Welding/Joining.
Hello. I wonder if someone here might be able to help me. I fly radio controlled model helicopters that are scale models. The one that I am trying to solve this issue with is a German made gas turbine engined model that runs on Jet A1 Aviation fuel. This model gets through 2 litres of this fuel in approximately 12 minutes, and I would like to prolong this flight time by having larger fuel tanks inside the body. I am trying to find someone that can either hot-plate weld or rotation weld or similar some HDPE bottles for me. They are 1 litre bottles that I would like to make longer thus giving me a larger quantity of volume. I cannot simply by these bottles in a larger size because of the internal dimensions of the body of the model which is seven feet long, but, joining two bottles together, one cut at three quarters of the way, and the other cut at half way would enable me to have this extra time. but of course this is where I am currently stuck. I have spoken to a plastic fabricator close to where I live in the midlands, but he has informed me that the only welding he does is of the standard rod type, and unfortunately that would just blow holes in the bottles. I personally did not realise that there is so many different types of plastic welding / joining, and I must admit it has been something of an eye opener for me. I do hope that you might be in a position to help me with this, or point me in the direction of someone that can, as I am now at the stage where I simply don't know where else to turn. Thank you very much for your time, and I hope that you don't think me a strange person for trying to solve this un common problem. Best regards Steve. |
