in heat?
I have a tiny pom that was born on 7/16. She is suddenly shedding her belly hair, quite rapidly. Someone told me that she is getting ready for her first heat and someone else said she's pregnant. I was hoping someone with experience could tell me if either are true. She is only 2 pounds, and I'm worried about something happening to her if she gets pregnant this soon. I have 2 male chihuahua puppies that are getting fixed next week, but wonder if I should separate them from my girl pom now? Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Hello Donna, Was your baby born this year? If so I would say she is going through her "puppy uglies" you can check out the puppy uglies page on my web site. The odds of her going into heat is very unlikely at this age but possible. The eariest I have heard of is 6 months, it is often between 9-12 months of age. When a pom goes through their uglies they loose their puppy hair and look terrible from about 4 months until 7-8 months of age. Have you looked at her genitals. If she is going into heat she will be swollen. If she has bred they will be VERY swollen. If she is tiny, then she is just in her uglies and you are safe leaving her with those boys. If you keep a close eye on her you will know when she is going into heat. She will start to swell anywhere from 1 - 4 weeks before she goes into heat. Heat it's self actually don't start until she bleeds and lasts 30 days. Day one of bleeding is day one of her cycle. They are generally fertile between day 9-14. That is when they would breed. Most ******* will not allow a male to mate if they are not fertile but I separate all my girls on day 1 of their cycle. I hope this is helpful and feel free to e-mail me or call if you have any questions. Have a great day, Deb |
