Favourite horror movie/s of all time
Something that the makers of 'When Evil Reigns' talked a lot about in pre-production was what makes a good horror film, and one of the best ways to do this is to identify which is your favourite horror film and why. For me, there are two. Firstly, I love the original 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre', because you don't get much better sheer, unrelenting brutality (with a sense of humor). Secondly I like 'Night of the Living Dead'. It was an incredible ahievement on a low budget (approximately US$300,000; there's something 'pure' about the black and white; and - let's face it - the zombie genre as we know it wouldn't have existed without it. Now you know my opinion. So which film gets your vote as the best horror film ever made, and why? |

"American Werewolf in London". Perhaps a tad predictable that this would get a mention but the opening scene of this film is terrifying. I ran to my room before the end of the scene when I was eight, again when I was ten, and probably when I was eleven. When I finally saw the end of the film at age twelve I was thoroughly satisfied. Great mix of humour and horror, and with special effects that still stand up against today's (still questionable) CGI, this film is a must. |

I dont know why, but I really liked "The Blair Witch Project." I know the premise of the movie is a little fat-fetched, and the marketing build up before the opening of the film was a little too much (though still convincing when I was still in high school), it's the only movie that can give me genuine chills. I guess I'm just a fan of mockumentaries as well. Film makers definately need to make more. I'm not a fan of the mainstream stuff they're releasing now. I've wasted too much of my precious money by watching them. |

I agree with you, Johnny; I think the 'Blair Witch Project' was good. What impressed me most, from a technical standpoint, was the way that the filmmakers didn't fight the equipment, really utilising what they had to shoot a film that was gritty and pretty in-your-face. And I respect the marketing that surrounded the film; it was a great illustration of the Internet's potential as a marketing device. The best mocumentary I've seen was 'Man Bites Dog'. It's French, I think, and is meant to be a documentary being made about a hitman. Overall, it's pretty horrible, with some scenes that I found hard to watch, but it's one of the most cleverly made films I've seen, and continues to influence me artistically. |

Re: Favourite horror movie/s of all time
My all-time top three horror flicks are: 1/Dawn of the Dead (original, of course). Strong story, believable characters, wonderful '70s feel, awesome Savini effects and sharp (and still relevant) satire. 2/Friday the 13th. Not a great film, but an old favourite. Cheesy, derivative, but has a cool creepy atmosphere awesome (yet again) Savini effects and highly influential. 3/The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original). Flat-out the most terrifying film ever made. Low-budget filmmaking at its best. Truly a work of art. |

Re: Favourite horror movie/s of all time
I'd have to go with 1, Day of the Dead - the hopelessness of their situation, and just the start alone (the city over run with zombies) does it for me! Saying that ALL of 'the dead' trilogy rock. 2, Dog Soldiers - not strictly a horror i dont suppose, werewolves and soldiers, top combination. I think I love this one for the army humour too, thats what 8 years does for ya :-) 3, 28 Days Later - scares the cr*p out of me. its only when i think that here in the uk you cant have firearms as easy as the rest of the world that we'd be wasted by any epidemic like this. |

Adding(or otherwise clarifying) to my list of Dead films, this does not include either 'Children of the Dead' 'House of the Dead' 'Dias De La Muerto' or the ridiculous 'Day of the Dead 2007 Remake' For Shame!:) |
