My Gran lived in Heworth avenue and I spent many years there,I remember Tommy Allen had the buthchers shop and Gladys Templeton had the top shop in the avenue . Dixon's was the top paper shop and Cowleys was the bottom paper shop , I always thought that was a dreary shop and smelled of snuff and baccy . The post office used to sell biscuits and was very different from today, there was Wipers the haberdashers . The chemist was owned by the co-op , and I can still remember my Gran's divi number 10646 . I remember it was chaos on divi day . |
