New trophy for MIning League end of season awards
After playing all my footballing career either as a centre half or sweeper from the age of fourteen to present day (a very creaky 52). I have had to sit through many award ceremonies, listening to the glory boy strikers etc being praised for their goalscoring prowess and picking up awards like best goalscorer. Although this has obviously not made me bitter!! I feel it's time for the backbone of any team ( the goalkeepers, centre backs and fullbacks to get their just rewards. My company will be sponsoring a new cup which will be presented at this years awards, for the team who concedes the least amount of goals throughout the season chosen from all three Mining Leagues.

Thanks Roger, that could well be us? I think you'll find that although we've scored 95 goals this season our top goalscorer will be nowhere near the top of that league even though we won the division. But look at our goal difference and goals against and you'll see how vital it is to have a great keeper and back line that know what their job is!

I will be checking with the league, but if the league tables in the paper are anything to go by, it looks like your team will be the first recipient of the new cup. See you at the AGM.

Just like to say thanks Roger for the cup presented last night at the AGM. Its a beauty and will definitely stand out on our crowded trophy shelf. Looking forward to seeing if we can retain it next year? Maybe i'll play another man in defence to tighten things up! Why is it called the roadsters cup?

It was richly deserved Phil. It's called the Roadsters Cup because the Garage I own is called Roadsters ( on the Pool Industrial Estate next to Macsalvers, very competitive rates - free courtesy cars and vans - blaa, blaa, plug, plug )The suggestion of the league winners against the Dunn Cup winners sounds good to me maybe we would give you a better game as long as I don't have to go in goal!! See you next season mate.
