Gulval 2 Portreath 1

Portreath keeper sent off deliberate foul on striker outside box.

Gulval centre half leaves pitch with bloodied nose.

The way you would hear it Gulval are kickers!

Its a hard league to win Portreath, instead of bigging up the fact that you are in the Junior Cup. Concentrate on the game you have to play!

Re: results

Well it's nice to hear from you General it's not often we hear from you on this forum!
We at Portreath have never bigged ourselves as you say about our run in the Junior Cup and we know that the mining league is a hard league to win. You would know this more than most going for the treble last season ;- Junior Cup, Dunn Cup and the league and you ended up winning nothing! As far as today's game is concerned we always knew it would be a tough game and I am not going to get into the logistics and technicalities of the game such as the foul count, the state of the bog sorry pitch, your sub striker who was on the pitch a grand total of 10 minutes and managed to get booked after two tackles on our centrehalf etc that were that late it was almost Sunday when he made them and two stone cold penalties turned down by a ref who was obviously intimidated by the crowd on the day. The only thing I will say write this date in your diary Saturday April 14th see you then at our place !!!!!! bring what you got.

Look forward to it Roger.

Lets hope you still have a side!

And it was one of your players bigging it up about the Junior Cup.

Re: results

You should know more than most that you can't control what your players say or do and you should never asume that their thoughts have any reflection on the feelings of the management or club they play for. It is purely banter between players. We at Portreath have the greatest respect for MAWNAN and look forward to a great game of football between two sides who know how to play the game as it should be played. Have no fear of Portreath being able to field a side in the return match my friend - we will!!!!

Re: results

Hello Mr. Roger. Cracking replies to the posts by The General. Do you mind if I join in?

Can't spend too much time these days posting on these websites due to work committments, although two of your players (Buckleys I think) tried their best on Saturday to give me a few months off work!

What a shame it is that although you have one of the best forwards (indeed all round players) in Mr. Brittan playing for you, the rest of your team is clouded in mediocrity. If you had another forward with 50% of his ability playing for you, the rest of us would be worried. But you don't. So you are the same as the rest of us...have to put up with crap pitches, bad weather conditions, good and bad refereeing and so on.

The last penalty shout that you are probably referring to (the only one I can remember) is a good one. It was me that caught the ankle of your man as he found the ball at his feet with only the keeper to beat. But the touch from me was no more than a faint brush against his boot, and he decided to go down as if shot at close range. There was no way in this world that he needed to fall over. He should have stayed on his feet and had a shot. Instead, he made himself a laughing stock and fell over. So although if I was referee I may well have given a pen, I think justice was done at the end of the day.

Controversial, me? Surely not.

I can't wait til April, I hope we draw you in a cup or two first. See you later.....

Re: results

Hello Mangle, are you the same Mangle who shook the hands of one our players after the game with a big grin on his face, saying to him, how it was a definite penalty as you took our player out a treat!
But enough about that game, as you may have already heard we have a big match coming up on Saturday in the Junior Cup against MAWNAN, a good footballing side I believe, that will make a nice change!! At least if we loose against them it will be because they played us off the park as opposed to trying to kick us of the park. See you soon, missing you already!!

Re: results

Roger the more it goes on the more sour your grapes get.

Let it go. You have a good side if its good enough it will win the league. Gulval have been there or there abouts for 8 years or so. Carharrack, Trispen TMS and gwinear have pipped us. If it doesn't happen this year then maybe next year.....

Re: results

I am the same Mangle that played on Saturday (most people are thankful there is only one Mangle), but what you have been told is rubbish.

Having just won the game, I did have a big grin on my face. No apologies there I am afraid. However, I can assure you that I made no such comments about the penalty to any of your players, or indeed, Gulval players. I posted (above) what happened, so even if I had said that, it would have been a lie. Ever heard of Chinese whispers, that's probably what happened. I don't do lies, so there you have it.

Do you honestly think Gulval tried to kick you off the park? I think deep down you know that didn't happen. Ask a couple of your players about stamping, see what they say. I do not remember any of your players having to receive treatment. Surely if we had tried to kick you off the park, someone would have connected at one point!

Good luck on Saturday. As we are playing in the league, a win will have us breathing down your necks.

Re: results

Thank you for clearing that up Mangle. I apologise if what you said is true for the false comment I made in the earlier posting. I hope you have a good result on Sat because if you do win and start climbing the league table it will put a little extra spice into our April meeting!

Re: results

I hope to be fair Darren really I do!

If I can restore your pace then can I have mine (what little I ever had) too?

Trained with my Reserve team tonight to keep them fresh for our final....I just need 1 1/2yards and I have a start!

No fair play to Portreath, I ran my mouth and was proved wrong.

Portreath and Praze are the top 2 this year. Nice to see you at the top table next!

Re: results

Hiya Sammo, I know what you mean about PC's but this forum lark is fun.

As for rep games it is down to Phil at TMS he is the Manager. I am all for having them re-instated ....maybe I will start a few threads on the forums.

Well done on your winners medal mate. A blood and guts player with a lot of ability. ENJOY!!

May see you on the 27th, I manage the Gulval Reserve side, we are on before you. Hope we dont get a thumping and that I sulk and go home early!!!

PS mail me your e-mail address to gulvalafc@aol.com I have the 2000 rep side pic somewhere I can mail you. There is some talent in that pic...I dont include me!

Re: results

Bloody hell John - I know you don't get on t'internet too often but you could have asked me why the games are not played!

One word - apathy. No-one can be bothered. The number of times I've spoken about this in league AGMs does not bear thinking about.

And you are spot on about the pride in representing your league. It is a big shame that the leagues have let a long-standing set of fixtures fall by the wayside. I remember playing in a few league sides back in the 1920s when we all played in black and white and had a lady in a long dress do the kick off. The ref was a man in a morning suit, tie, monocle and a pipe lol lol lol lol

Re: results

Pride is the las thing to go they say.

It went some time ago I reckon. Darren, I would love to get together and get something started. Light the fire if you like. Cornish Soccer forum is a good place to start but the assault on FHL must be Strategic. With a few choice words from the not so great and posiibly alright when they were fit we might drum up a bit of interest!

A quick beer at AGM might be in order!!!

Re: results

Hi Lads, just found this topic on the rep sides. I'm as keen as you lot to take on the other league and when asked to be the Manager at the AGM i did confirm Darren as my assistant. The problem seems to be lack of organisation from the two committee's in comunicating, picking a date and a venue. If they do that then i will be proud to pick a side to beat that other lot! We as winners of the league and Gulval the year before didn't get to play against our select side either.

Re: results

Perhaps that is the problem, those that should not be named!!

We should set our sights on Duchy League as well. I am sure 2 articulate blokes like your goodselves and a no nothing loud mouth like me can drum something up?

We get one fixture going and the other lot will be beside themselves!

Cornish Soccer Forum adds fuel to the fire and then we have some rivalry which should spawn competition?

An idea or no?

Re: results

Yes Mike, i'm in. Bit to late for this season unless we have a pre or early season fixture, but yes start stoking the fire. See you at the AGM hopefully depending on the date and my shift.
