REDRUTH UNITED 4
Illogan 0

Redruth United gave another masterclass display as they demolished 3rd place Illogan at Clijah Croft.

In successive weeks, Redruth have now shown their true credentials with two teams who drew with them in the October away fixture, and after having seen off St Buryan 5-0 last week, they totally bossed the game today against their opponents.

Illogan clearly had a game plan early on, and with their second team not playing, brought in some new faces, and seemed determined to break the game up by trying to intimidate through their aggressive tackling.

Unfazed, Redruth controlled the game from the start. Gareth Fulcher scored his first on his return to the club as he wrongfooted his marker 15 minutes into the game and shot a low drive into the far left hand corner of the net.

Some excellent interplay between Fulcher and Barry McCabe released Jason Smith to score Redruth's second 15 minutes later, and within 5 minutes, Smith notched his second goal to see Redruth in 3-0 up at the break.

Clearly the away team had nothing to lose in the second half, but the more they pushed players up, the more Redruth stung them on the counter-attack.

Ryan Baber and Phil Nicholls were exquisite in centre midfield - short one-two passes that created so much space. And with Callum Salmon on the left, and Fulcher on the right, Redruth continued to threaten in the second half.

Callum Salmon scored the goal of the game as he cut inside his marker on the left of the penalty area, and smashed a ball into the top left hand corner of the net.

Redruth were in raptures and the game was sealed with 25 minutes remaining. Indeed, Illogan were lucky to survive with just 4 goals as Guy Johnson twice went close, once hitting the post, and Ryan Baber just blazed over from long range.

Redruth go into the Xmas period top of Mining 2, 15 games unbeaten. Man of the match was Jason Smith.
