Black Mask & Peachface
My question is.... I have a black mask (3yrs) & a peach face (1.5 years). They have their own cages. When they are out they play together nicely outside and while inside, they sit close together at the bottom corner of their cage. I have recently combined the two birds into one cage however, I'm not sure what to think about their behaviour? They have been together for 2 days now and recently noticed the mask (who is male and much smaller) chasing and biting my peach face. However at night, they go to their separate huts and sleep and everything seems okay. I did notice that the peach face sits at the bottom of the cage now rather than at the top, and she seems a bit more clingly to me. Are they playing around? Should I separate them immediately or should I give it a bit more time? I would really prefer them to be in the same cage whereas it's easier to maintain and I'm looking into buying a larger cage, but if either of them are going to get hurt, I will separate them. Please Help. |

Hi Stephanie, I really don't know about your question but I have a question for you. I just bought a Peachface last Friday and it died today. I was so sad and didn't understand why. The PetSmart manager told me that It was because they are suppose to live in pairs and I didn't know that. Also I already read in an website that they necessarely need to be in pairs. So here is my question: Your older love bird the black mask lived byitself for how long, was he fine??? Please help me. Luciene |

I've read and heard that Black Mask and Peachface should be kept separate more so the separation is to prevent them from breeding with each other (since they are actually 2 different species of lovebirds). I'm not sure about just having them live together. They will get territorial. Did you place the peachface inside the Black Mask's cage? If YES, then the Black Mask is dominating its own cage that is has lived in for a long time, which will cause it to become territorial therefore pushing the peachface to hang out at the bottom of the cage. Sounds like it is best if they stay in separate cages and just let them out to play with each other. Of course I could be wrong...It's always different with each lovebird. |
