Rescued 1 Gator Baby - I'm in love - My first experience with a bird friend.
I recently took in a bird that was advertised as a "bitter, angry, agressive, biting," bird. Well, I am in love with the little sweet heart. She was so aggressive she literally would come across the cage to bite your hands as you handled the handles on her cage. She was not noisy. She was very frustrated, she had not had fresh food ever,(no fruit or vegies), just seed. No new toys in months. The 4 yr old child had been poking and picking and teasing her for and ongoing indefinite time period. She had also been confined to her cage for nearly 15 months. There was another child on the way and the owner had just had it with the whole situation. I answered the ad and before the day was out a woman came by with the peach crested female love bird. She was approximately 2yrs old. She barely made it in the apartment and then she was gone. She brought food, bedding, cage, and I never even got her real name as it was an ad on an internet site that trades in free swap. Well that was 3 weeks ago tommorrow. She is the highlight of my life and a couple of the neighbors adore her also. She still bites and wow can she lay that beek on you! She twists and pulls with all her mite as she bites for the best pain results! We patiently and quietly take it and then tell her NO BITE and then take gental measures accordingly and she is getting much better for she is happier. She has the most new toys you've ever seen and if you say go ring your bell where ever she is she stops and will imediately go ring the bell. After she had been here maybe 2 days and her cage sat right were I work all day - (best play spot) - I opened her cage so she could enjoy the small studio I have for I have huge windows and 1 large room to share with her. She was so tickled. People who come to visit she shows off for as she is the entertainment, and no doubt always will be. I am going to get her a little harness so she can go with me when I go places as she gets lonely when I am gone. ( I hear her calling me from the elevator when I come home) She is very bright - Whistleing sounds that are nearly words - peek a boo, (that is new) ah oh, get you, love u, and she mimics every bird we go visit and loves music and has her own radio and bird simulater, which she loves. She plays with each of the visitors differently. It is like each of us gradify a certain need she has long since missed. I am the one that is the playmate, yet the ultimate mom. Cher is the protective cuddler, for she has many birds and Gator Baby loves to go visit her, Missy is the vocal and excercise buddy. It is so wonderful to see her coming around. She has to know everything. I have read and researched extensively, but I'll never know as much as experienced handlers. Everyday I feel so blessed to have this little bugger in my life. I pray everyday she remains well and grows mentally and emotionally. She is truely a prankster, hanging upside down from things and then mimicing our laughter, bobbing her head and waking me up by playing with my hair and earrings - she truely is the gold in the morning sun.
