Maestra Beverly Lucaylucay

Setting the record straight.....
I am Beverly Lucaylucay, Ted Lucaylucay's sister. In regards to Jerry Meyer's statement of a "Family's" role after their family member passes on, (with this issue being my brother Ted Lucaylucay and my father Lucky Lucaylucay"), I have to say I am quite disappointed to have read the comments he published. Being of direct "Blood" line and control, the family indeed has the right to either promote, demote and/or dis-associate anyone at will, if the cause shows obvious dis-respect to the Family and/or any type of falsification of any levels claimed by an individual. The death of my father and brother doesn't leave the doors wide open for others too abuse and use for self-promotional reasons. My credentials and authority was earned through many years of training primarily with my dad and my brother. My continued training was gained and continues to this day, even after their unexpected deaths through Grandmaster Vince Maglinti who also was a direct student of Grandmaster Villabrille back on Kauai, Hawaii. I "earned" my respected Guro level in 2004 and was promoted to Maestra in 2006 by Grandmaster Maglinti. I was also left with the "Authority" to oversee all issues pertaining to the continued well-being of our family's Lucaylucay Kali/JKD organization and their constituants signed by my mother Rosalina Lucaylucay before her passing. With all due respect to Jerry Meyers, let's set the record straight today. This isn't just my opinion, this is the way it is.... Take it or leave it! |

I am a student of Kali and i must agree on what Maestra Beverly is saying. If she is a direct "bloodline" family member from Lucaylucay then she has every right to promote or demote within the system. Especially if she herself was taught under the same lineage as Ted and her father Lucky. If she can't continue her family's teachings then honestly, who can?!? A lot of students tend to forget that the filipino martial arts were only meant for the secracy of the family. Meaning that you were only considered a student if you were a family member or invited into the group. Thats how the secret was always passed down from generation to generation. It is only recently that the arts has emerged from family members to the public eye. Now being a direct descendant from the Lucaylucay family, i stongly believe that Maestra Beverly can do what ever she wants. Guro Ted did it from his father, why can't she?!? I mean no disrespect to anyone on this post or fellow students of the filipino martial arts. I'm just concerned for all the drama and dirty politics that has tainted some of these practices. The filipino community is very family oriented and close. A true practioner of this art would recognize that and respect all the values of where this art came from. Not just banging sticks around and fighting with knife. |

"Especially if she herself was taught under the same lineage as Ted and her father Lucky." Well, Shannon Lee trains in JKD under Ted Wong now. "Same Lineage". Does that automatically make her an authority on JKD? NOPE! Granted, Bev did receive some training under her father Lucky. Who was a Guro in the Villabraille system. However, Teddy was a certified Guro in Arnis, Serrada, and Villabraille-Largusa Kali. Teddy's art was a blend of All 3 FMA's and JKD. and all the other martial arts Teddy studied in his youth. Judo, Karate, Kajukempo, ****oryu, Shorinryu, Praying Mantis, Wing Chun just to name a few. Does Beverly really have the same Credentials and skill levels as her brother or dad? Not even close! |

ps. Does Shannon Lee have the right to promote or demote anyone? Probably NOT. But if she did, NO one would Respect her for trying. But she is the president / owner of the Bruce Lee estate so she could probably stop anyone from using her father's name, appearance, logo, etc. Beverly claims her mom gave her the Authority to run the family business. That would make her the president/owner of the LucayLucay Estate, enterprise, corporation or whatever you want to call it. But it sure as hell doesnt make her a Maestra or Grandmaster. |
