If you are looking for a fun time and a road trip, come play for a good cause as the Bearclaws Disc Golf Association hosts "Do it for the Dam V" at the Francis E. Walter Dam Disc Golf Course in Lake Harmony, Pa., only about 15 minutes from Hickory Run State Park.
This is also the second-round site of the 2008 PDGA "B-Tier" Summer Soltstice at Hickory Run/FEW Crosstown on June 21.
In a continual effort to make course improvements at the dam, we are hosting our fifth fund-raising event. The event is scheduled for Sunday, April 13. Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with tee time set for 10:00 a.m.
We are hopeful this event will enable us to raise some more money to possibly finish off the ongoing installation of new baskets at the Dam. We need five new baskets to finish the course and currently have enough money for three new baskets. We are hoping this event will get us enough money to buy four new baskets.
Cost will be $20.00 for Open and $15.00 for amauter with 70-percent of the funds going to payout and 30-percent going to the FEW Basket Fund.
The format, as decided upon by a vote of Bearclaw members, will be one round of singles and one round of Polar Doubles. This is something unique we have not done before locally but it is the same format used at the 2008 Rutgers Ice Bowl.
In Polar Doubles, you would take the person who had the best singles score in the first round and team them up with the person who had the worst score of the first round, regardless of division or gender, and team them up as a second-round doubles team and play a normal round of better-shot doubles. The person with the second best singles score would then team with the person who had the second worst score, etc., etc..
After the round of polar doubles completes, each player will have their individual score and doubles team score totaled. This would then become their overall score.
