Hi Sherry:
Physical therapy can sometimes help (I am a physical therapist). It depends on how badly it is torn and whether or not you have an impingement as well. An impingement can be a contributing factor in some rotator cuff tears. If the tear is mild and there is minimal impingement, exercise can help. Did your physician suggest physical therapy?
