A FRUITY BOON!

I found an orange nana that was shaped just like an apple.
Its skin was pitted evenly with rusty coloured dapple.
I felt I had a winner here – so rare you couldn’t topple.
So I took a patent out on it and christened it ‘banopple’.

I bred them in captivity – well under lock and key,
Because they were a rarity – I couldn’t let them flee.
The local press got wind of it, and soon there was a splash,
With every fruity connoisseur upon me in a flash.

Wineries were desperate to use them for their booze.
They felt ‘Banopple Chardonnay’ a coup they couldn’t lose.
Pudding makers, equally, were vying for my heart.
It seems there’d be a profit in lo-cal banopple tart.

I was tempted, but it seemed to me that nothing beat the awe
Of unpeeling a banopple and then gorging on it raw.
I maybe won’t be rich thanks to my new inventive fruit
But, some things in life mean more to me than making lots of loot.

Maybe I’m a nana for not making pounds and pence,
But, bad apples tend to spoil things, destroying innocence.
I won’t be emigrating to achieve an orange tan
But, I’m happy with the fruity fun I’ve found for fellow man!
