Private tours from N.C.L.

My family will be cruising the Western Caribbean in January, 2009. We would like to do private tour instead of booking through Ncl. I was made to understand that they give a hard time to let off those who book private tours. It is said that they let off those who book excursions through them first. Is there a way around this?

We were on the NCL Spirit last week and didn't have a hard time to get off the ship. When we booked Donald sent us a confirmation to show the shorex manager so we may be let off the ship early. We followed Donald instructions and didn't have any problem. Not to mentions that we had a ball at the ruins with Roberto. Roberto is a well connected tour guide. We had time to do a great tour of the ruins, stop to shop, and have lunch. We also had time to stop at a local bar for a few local drink.
