Tough Trout Fishing

Battling a cold, it took all I had to get up early and go fishing today. After the great action yesterday afternoon with Capt. Bill and Pat, I was hoping to get it done early. Not to be as only 11 trout were in the box by 10 am.

To make a tough day just a little more tougher, my engine battery died without warning at my second stop for the day. Had to use one of the trolling motor batteries to start the engine. Thought maybe I'd switch the batteries back once the motor was running and try to recharge, but the motor would stall out on the dead battery. Tried to find a location with a steady bite so I could stay on the troll motor, but only found a few which played out. Switching batteries at each stop got old very quickly so I tried anchor fishing which only yielded one more trout. Had enough by early afternoon so it was back to the landing. Ended the day with a dozen trout mostly 13 to 14 inches.

Quite a few boats out today. Most everyone I talked to were having a tough day including four guys in one boat that had not got a bite all morning. I guess the drop in water temperature stunned the fish.
