Centenary Dinner

Dunfermline Carnegie Hockey Club celebrated the centenary of its formation on Saturday with a Gala Dinner at Forrester’s Park Resort, Cairneyhill.

Over 200 members, guests, players of past & present and representation from the Scottish Hockey Union were in attendance. Club President Hew Bishop presided over the evening, which included a pictorial history of the Club, guest speaker & Club member Kevin Walker, a great deal of reminiscing and music by local group The Falcons.

During the evening, Martin Boag, Scottish Hockey Union, presented a quaich in recognition of the centenary milestone, which was accepted on behalf of the Club by Hew Bishop.

The Club’s nominated charity, Fife Diabetic Society, benefited through the generosity of those present donating to the raffle. Further, special awards were made to Gordon Johnston, Bob Rennie, Keith Forster & Sheila Duncan in recognition of their long-standing commitment to the Club.

On Sunday, the Club celebrations continued with two representative fixtures, the first game involving a Club Select playing an ‘Exiles’ Team of ex-players now residing away from Dunfermline but back specifically for the Gala Dinner. The second game involved a Club Veterans team who took on Scotland’s National over 60’s Team.

Despite the adverse weather, both games went ahead, with the Club teams recording victories, namely 6-3 & 5-0 respectively.
