Personal Protection equipment or
Personal Protective equipment?

I think they are interchangeable. However, to my mind, they have the
following connotations:

protective = gloves, goggles, steel-toe-cap boots (ie non-military,
industrial)

protection = pistol, helmet, body-armour (ie military-style)
