This sentence...
Churches, along with the ministry, also are businesses.

Is that correct, or should it be are also businesses? Thanks.

You have a choice. Both are correct.

I prefer 'are also' (for what it's worth).

(Also is an adverb. It is good practice to place adverbs near the verbs they modify. In this case, the verb is 'are'. Placing 'also' before it or after it is grammatically acceptable.)
