possessive

When referring to the Dutch how should you state the word in the possessive. For example, is it 'the Dutch's love of history' rather than 'the Dutch people's love of history'. It's the possessive I'm interested in.
Thanks

Re: possessive

This is an excellent question. My immediate thought was that Dutch is an adjective and that you can't make the possessive form of an adjective using 's or s'. However, I agree it could have a possessive form, and I can think of no reason why Dutch's would be wrong. I see it as a plural noun just like children (possessive: children's).

What about Chinese? The Chinese's attitudes? Of course, the word Dutch means "of the Dutch people" too. Therefore, the "the Dutch love of history" is perfectly acceptable and would raise fewer eyebrows.
