Which is correct?

Our department is responsible for the safe keeping of thousands of people’s private data. By signing the NDA, you are saying that you acknowledge and agree to this level of trust that is being placed in you.

or

Our department is responsible for the safe keeping of thousands of person’s private data. By signing the NDA, you are saying that you acknowledge and agree to this level of trust that we are placing in you.

Grammatically, I prefer the first.

Firstly, safekeeping is one word.


  • People's is correct.
  • Person's is wrong. Even if you like persons as the plural of person, it should be persons'

    I also prefer the passive version:

    ...level of trust that is being placed in you.

    I must say that the sentence could be reduced somewhat. One suggestion is:


    Our department is responsible for safekeeping thousands of people’s private data. Signing the NDA signifies your agreement to the level of trust outlined therein.


    I'm not over the moon with ending the sentence with 'therein', but you get the idea. You can lose lots of words methinks.
