I vs me

Hi

My daughter brought her schoolwork corrected such:

Her sentence: My family is made up of my father, mother and me.

Teacher corrected sentence:My family is made up of my father, mother and I.

I believe since I is subject pronoun and 'me' is the objective of 'I', it ought to be 'me' in that position of the sentence (plus that sentence already has a subject 'My family').

I just want a reconfirmation of my analysis.

Thks.

Re: I vs me

The correct answer is 'me'.

The pronoun 'me' is in the objective case following the preposition 'of'.

If you reword the list of family members, it becomes more obvious:

My family is made up of me, my father and mother.

It is covered more in this lesson on prepositions. Your specific point is on the right (under the 'Beware' section).

Another example:

It is a present from my wife and I. (< wrong)

It is a present from my wife and me. (< correct)

It is a present from me and my wife. (< correct and slightly easier on the ear)
