'for' or 'to'?

Which is correct?

1) You are invited 'for' dinner.
or
You are invited 'to' dinner.

2) Let's go out 'for' lunch.
or
Let's go out 'to' lunch.

Both are correct. I judge 'to' to be a little more formal, especially with 'dinner'.
