Grammar & vocab confusion

Hi, I would love to clarify these problems I have:

1) Difference between less and lesser
- often we see two words are used, but is there any difference between them or can they be used at the same time?
- perhaps there's some underlying rules like few vs. little, but I couldn't find any info between less vs. lesser

2) What's the difference between adversity, misfortune, mishap, plight and languish (or any similar meaning words)?
- from what I've found: all 5 words are describing a difficult situation, but how do they differ?

ur help would be most appreciated
thx
rgds, alisa

Re: Grammar & vocab confusion

Oooh, these are vocabulary questions more than grammar questions. Not really our bag, I'm afraid.

I could put a grammar spin on your less/lesser question, but it's probably best if you look them up. You need a dictionary that tells you what part of speech they are and offers some examples.

My advice would be to use this one:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/less

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/lesser

Best regards
