other's or others'

December 14 '11

My query is about 'others' when used as a possessive. I always go along with 's, eg each other's clothes, the other's talent etc. Which is correct? I see it others' in lots of places.

Re: other's or others'

Swap the wording around. E.g.

The talent of others.

The clothes of each other.

If you have others, then use others'.

If you have other, then use other's.

It's just the usual singular/plural possessive rule.
