collective nouns

What is the difference between common nouns and collective nouns?

Re: collective nouns

A common noun is the word used for something; e.g. tree, dog, floor, air, love, pain, table.

A collective noun is a type of common noun, but the thing named is a group; e.g. team, group, jury, pod (of whales), flock (of sheep), parliament (of owls), murder (of crows).

Murder (as in killing a person) is a common noun.

Here's a lesson the different types of nouns.
