I often see "responsible to" written in our job descriptions at work. The nuns taught me that it should always be "responsible FOR." Who's right?

Both are right.
Responsible to a person (if they're in charge).
Responsible for a thing or person (if you're in charge).

Thank you for your response. I understand the difference as you noted it, but what I am seeing is "Employee is responsible to take meeting minutes, submit reports...." Shouldn't that be "responsible for taking meeting minutes....?
