either/or plural or singular verb

hi all,

my doubt is in reference to a sentence used on this page:
http://www.grammar-monster.com/lessons/either_or_plural_or_singular_verb.htm

this sentence :
Neither Simon nor Gary do as they are told.
is given as wrong ..can any one explain why it is wrong.

According to me it is correct since the subject (simon , gary ) is singular the verb should also be singular.

Can anyone throw light on this.

Re: either/or plural or singular verb

You're right. But, don't think "do" is singular. It's the plural conjugation (e.g. They do; we do). "Does" is the third-person-singular conjugation of "to do" (e.g. He does.)

Do = plural

Does = singular (as in "He does...")

I hope that helps

(Remember, it's most nouns that show their plurals by adding "s"...not verbs. Perhaps that was the confusion.)

This question refers to "either/or and neither/nor with singular or plural verb" lesson.
