Correctly using "upon".

Can anyone explain if it is proper to use the word upon in the following way:

"...thy voice, as silver bells that strike
upon church towers at noon..."

Many thanks,
Noam

Yes, it's fine.

Upon is a preposition with the following meanings:

1. up and on; upward so as to get or be on: He climbed upon his horse and rode off.
2. in an elevated position on: There is a television antenna upon every house in the neighborhood.

In your example, it's in the second meaning.
