article before superlative forms of adverbs

Tom ran ... at the race yesterday.
A) fastest B) the fasterst
Which answer is correct? Please, help.

Re: article before superlative forms of adverbs

I think both are understandable and therefore OK. I would say 'in the race' rather than 'at the race', though. I would also use 'was' rather than 'ran', i.e. would say 'Tom was the fastest in the race yesterday'.
