pluralising quotes

Hi,

I want to write something along the lines of, "We said our "Do you's?" and our "I do's". Wanted to know the correct place to put the "s" and apostrophe in pluralising the quote. Would it be:

a) "Do you's?" and "I do's"
b) "Do you?"s and "I do"s
c) "Do you?"'s and "I do"'s
d) some other (please do tell!)

Thanks

Jo

Re: pluralising quotes

In circumstances like these, people try way too hard to avoid using an apostrophe to show the plural. Sometimes, apostrophes are useful to show plurals, and lots of the leading grammar references condone it. Go for the apostrophe.

There is more on apostrophes in plurals here.

This is the neatest and clearest version by far:

"Do you's?" and "I do's"

Expect some grief from grammarians though. They really don't like this ruling. But, stand your ground. The apostrophes are fine.
