Capitalizing Latin anniversary names

Are anniversary terms like Centennial and Bicentennial supposed to be capitalized in sentences such as the following?

"We celebrated our Centennial."

"We are commemorating our Bicentennial with cake and punch."

Re: Capitalizing Latin anniversary names

A quick look in my dictionary tells me there is no need to capitalise.

Yep, I'd agree. They're not formed from proper nounsand they're not the name of the event, so I see no need for a capital letter.

If you said something like The Bicentennial Pub Quiz, you could give it a capital letter because you could claim Bicentennial was part of the name of the event.
