Grammar

Is "two" and adjective in this sentence... Dancing may be easy for some, but I have always had two left feet.

Re: Grammar

Yes, because it modifies a noun (feet).

Re: Grammar

I agree - two is an adjective in that sentence.

Re: Grammar

Yes, but... A cardinal number such as two rarely feels like a true adjective because it obeys some very different rules from other adjectives.

For one thing, it must always come before any other adjectives, never at the middle or end of a list.

Also, it is never followed by a comma when used in a string of adjectives. This becomes apparent if you make an example with more than one adjective in addition to the number: "There were two tall, ornate chimneys".

And while most adjectives can be placed at the end of a clause, after the verb "to be", with numbers this sounds rather strange: "Her wardrobe is huge; her handbags are twelve". Only when referring to someone's age ("the little girl was two") does it sound right, where the words "years old" are implied but unspoken.
