Bare vs Bear

Is the following sentence with the word bear in it used correctly.

I understand there are ovens and water heaters to replace and plumbing to fix, but such high cost items will be difficult to bear by the cost of meals to our students.

It's the right use of the word bear, but the sentence is a little broken.
You should reword the sentence so people or an institution "will find it difficult to bear the cost of..."
