Before I can describe adverb clauses, I have to make sure you understand adverbs and adverb phrases. Not that they're complicated but they're all related.
So we already know what adverbs are, they're single words that modify a verb.
He ran fast.
Adverb phrases contain the adverb and a preposition or infinitive.
He ran every Tuesday this month.
So now it's time to describe adverb clauses and what makes them different from phrases.
An adverb clause will meet 3 requirements.
1. It will contain a subject and verb.

3. It will answer one of 3 adverb questions: How? When? or Why?

- This is an adverb clause because it meets the 3 requirements. We have the subject(she) and verb(read). We have the subordinate conjunction(once). Amy's IQ dropped When? Once she read the post. So we've answered the question.
