Clauses

Hello!
Every time I come across detailed grammar explanations I get lost, and I'd love recommendations when it comes to books that I can read on the subject.

I know my verb tenses, the parts of speech, my participles etc.

However, when I read something akin to advanced linguistics or advanced grammar analysis, I start scratching my head since everything is foreign to me.

I am interested in grammar and how it works, and would love to learn more.
Thanks

Re: Clauses

First start off with simple sentences, then master getting your verbs correctly tensed and coherent. Next, I would recommend using a site like About.com to learn how to compress sentences together, so you don't have to keep repeating the subject of the sentence. There are numerous sites for learning punctuation which can give you different takes on usage. I find Microsoft Encarta a useful tool because it has exerts of many literature classics within. The BBC web masters do educational website material to improve writer's craft.

Grammar Rules is very grammar light. It was written from a vocational perspective by an Army officer.
