Possessive adjective?

I'm reading a book by Michael Swan and he notes that "my, your, his, her, our, their" are NOT adjectives. Yet, the curriculum I'm using to teach EFL says they are "possessive adjectives". And so do many other sources on the internet. Who is correct?

Thank you!

Re: Possessive adjective?

Maybe both are right as a possessive adjective is not a usual adjective-- it doesn't actually describe the object being described's qualities in itself; hence use 'possessive adjective' to refer to my,your, etc ;rather than just 'adjective', which you use for usual describing words.
