Is southwest correct or south west.

I have a golf tournament named the Southwest Open, and already people are squabbling over the correct grammar.

Help please!!

south-west (note the hyphen) is both a compass bearing, a direction
and

an area of a country, region or town.

So - both of the squabbling parties are wrong. Tell them it's hyphenated!

Note, however, that in the US you would use "southwest" (no hyphen).
