analog or analogue

Hi, I was wondering what the correct Australian spelling of analogue was when referring to time. Analog or analogue? The NSW school maths syllabus spells analog while other Australian published texts spell analogue. Are they interchangeable perhaps? I thought analog was an American spelling like they do with catalog instead of catalogue.

Re: analog or analogue

do you know exactly how much people are in the world and also how many babys get born a day%20void(0);

Re: analog or analogue

In Australia, your authority is the Macquarie Dictionary. (That takes me back to my Sydney days!)

They list 'analogue' as the noun = a person or thing seen as comparable to another...

...whilst 'analog' is the adjective, as in 'an analog recording' - and so, 'an analog watch'.

Thank you

Re: analog or analogue

Is this an american site or does it cover Australian grammatical rules?

Re: analog or analogue

Standard AusE is generally the same as standard BrE, though there are some differences, of course.

The difficulty is that AusE is far less well-known than BrE and AmE, so finding an answer to your question(s) may be difficult; but I will try!

Do you have a particular question to ask?
