participle clauses? dangling modifier?

Hi,
I confuse ‘participle clause’ and ‘dangling modifier’

this is example,
-> the artists were able to apply paint more thickly and use heavier brush stokes, introducing a unique feel to their paintings.

I think
(comma) , introducing = and the artists introduced a unique ~

But in teachers guide book says
(comma) , introducing = and it introduced a unique ~
If it is right, how to omit the subject “it” which is different from main clause subject “the artist”?

Re: participle clauses? dangling modifier?

The artists were able to apply paint more thickly and use heavier brush stokes, thereby introducing a unique feel to their paintings.

The artists were able to apply paint more thickly and use heavier brush stokes. Applying paint more thickly and using heavier brush stokes introduced a unique feel to their paintings.

(comma) , introducing = and the artists introduced a unique ~ : No, not artists. It was the new painting technique.

(comma) , introducing = and it(=applying paint more thickly and using heavier brush stokes) introduced a unique ~
