Although and though

Is "Although" always the correct choice when it's the first word of the sentence?
Is "though" always used anywhere else in the sentence, including after a comma?

If the above questions are answered yes:
The word "although" would never be found with a lower-case "a"
The word "Though" would never be found with an upper-case "T"

Is the following sentence beginning with the wrong word?

Though the inflationary cost of silver almost ended the tradition in the 1980s, the Silver Diplomas continue to be awarded to Mines graduates.

Re: Although and though

Your quote was from an American magazine.

Are you learning English, or American? THEY ARE VERY DIFFERENT.

Re: Although and though

I didn't know it's from a magazine.

I continue to learn correct usage of the English language.

Re: Although and though

The main difference between the two is that 'although' is slightly more formal.

Your quote is from the website of the Colorado School of Mines, and the page is written in a 'chatty' (informal) style. As you can see, the writer uses the less forMal 'though'. So either of the words could start a sentence.
