grammar

what is an impersonal absolute participle

Re: grammar

It's a participle phrase that does not refer to anything in the sentence.

For example:

Roughly speaking, she lives 10 miles away.

She is not speaking roughly. It is a standalone (absolute), impersonal (nothing to do with anyone/thing in the sentence), participle.

(I had to research that one!)
