's or s'

Which one is true ? The dancers' costume was good.the dancers' costumes were good? The costume was plural in that two sentences but when they were the same costumes is that true to say the first sentence.are there any differences between american and Britain's rule in this occasion

Re: 's or s'

1 dancer & 1 costume - dancer's costume
1 dancer & 2 costumes - dancer's costumes
2+ dancers & 1 costume - dancers' costume
2+ dancers & 2+ costumes - dancers' costumes

British English. I don't know about America but would think for this it would be the same.
