Why Hello or Why, Hello

I bought a poster from Etsy to hang in my entry way that greets people with a Why Hello

The person I bought it from has a comma after the Why,Hello and it seems wrong to me.

Any grammar help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

"Why, hello!"

Actually, it's a verbless exclamative, usually with an exclamation mark at the end "Why, hello!" Typically, it's used to greet someone whom you may have amorous feelings towards.

In speech, there's usually a slight pause between "why" and "hello" which prevents it sounding like a question, hence the insertion of a comma.

Btw, "why" can be replaced with "well" with no change of meaning: "Well, hello!"
