Verb, noun, or adjective

Hello,

Please, i am not certain what "watching" is (see below) as a part of speech.

"We should not waste our time watching TV."

When I analyze the sentence, i know that:

1) should = helping verb
2) waste = Main Verb
3) TV = Noun

4) watching = a) is it present continous of verb, hence -ing?
= b) is it an adjective modifying the following noun "TV"?
= C) Is it Gerund? verb converted to noun?

Please, help me to understand this matter. Thank you

Hi Tony

Its part of speech is verb, a present participle to be precise, but not present continuous. "Watching tv" is called a participial clause; it comprises the present participle verb "watching" and the noun "tv" as its direct object. So we have:

we: pronoun
should: modal auxiliary verb (helper verb)
not waste: adverb / main verb
our time: pronoun / noun
watching tv: participle verb / noun

Does that help?
