workd walk

Word walk is used as noun & verb both. Help me understand in this sentence.

1) Mr Smith says they will walk to the theatre.
2) Mr Smith thinks it is a long walk.

Re: workd walk

In which sentence do you think it is used as a verb, and in which, as a noun?

Re: workd walk

1. is the future tense of the verb "to walk." The word "will" makes it what is called the future tense, e.g. I will eat in the cafeteria tomorrow; I will see you in my office at 10 sharp; we will not be at the gym until later.

2. the word "walk" is a noun. You can have a long walk, a short walk, but walk is still a noun.

FYI: English is rife with words that serve as both verbs and nouns: rebel/rebel; a change in the tonic (spoken) stress determines. For example, re-BEL is a verb, while RE-bel is a noun.
