First, all the relevant pronouns in your examples are reflexive. You see, reflexive pronouns have two main uses: one where they function as complement, and an emphatic use where they function as modifier in clause or NP structure.

COMPLEMENT USE ..........................EMPHATIC USE

Sue hurt herself...................................Sue designed the house herself.

Sue was talking to herself....................Sue herself admitted it was a mistake.


Now you know the difference between the two types, why don't you try marking up your sentences using the above examples as a guide and we'll check your answers
