Straight goods

I am not sure whether I can raise this question in this forum. Please let me know if I should not have raised this question.

I came across a passage and the part of the passage reads:

"And, some people who believe in a position also believe that anything furthering the position is acceptable. This is the attitude that “the end justifies the means.” But while they are already convinced, we are not. We want the straight goods, while they want to sell us a bill of goods. "

What is the meaning of 'Straight goods'? Does it mean coming directly to the point/straight to the matter/using an uncomplicated way? Or is it something else?

I think 'selling us the bill of goods' would mean not exactly doing the job but going roundabout or using the complicated way.

Please help me understand this.

Re: Straight goods

First of all, only the author can say what he meant by "straight goods."

In this limited context, I say "straight goods" means the "truth" as opposed to a "bill of goods," slang for "lies."
