I agree with GM. The 2nd sentence of Jane Austen’s Emma reads: “She [Emma] was the youngest of the two daughters of a most affectionate, indulgent father”. However, I've seen numerous posts on other websites condemning this usage on the grounds of some supposed rule which demands that “younger” be used here. I suspect that Jane Austen’s usage is widely supported, and I should welcome comments.
