It's true that some kind of determiner is normally an obligatory element with singular count nouns, but it needn't be an article; other kinds are possible:
The dog is enjoying his bone. A cat is stuck up the tree. This /that car is fantastic Some boy stole my bike. Every home should have one. Any competent mechanic should be able to fix it.
